2009 Dakota 50/50 Setting a High Standard in NoDak!
The Dakota 50/50 celebrated another successful event October 30th and 31st, when the breeders, trainers, showman and horses presented at the NDSU Equine Center in Fargo, North Dakota. Thirty-four horses competed for $19, 390 in cash plus many prizes. Twenty-eight of the 34 competing earned points, a testament to the talent and trainability represented by the breeder members of this event. Major sponsors for the event are Uncle Bob’s Trailers of Jamestown, ND; Fort Dodge Animal Health, SuperPumper Convenience Stores; and North Country Mercantile, Minot, ND.
Good To Go Zip by Dont Give Me No Zip and out of Peachy Doll (Superior AQHA Amateur and Open) was crowned the Grand Champion, with 10 points to spare. He earned 23 Conformation, 40 Rail and 14 Pattern points during the 2 day event, placing first under all 4 judges in the rail class. Prizes included $5513 in cash, a Dakota 50/50 jacket sponsored by Fort Dodge Animal Health and two winter blankets for the Champion owner and breeder, sponsored by Rolette State Bank, Rolette, ND and Nodak Supply of Bottineau. The AQHA sorrel gelding is owned by Josh and Robin Langan, Belcourt, ND; bred by Melodie Nelson, Williston, ND and was ridden by Darren Buckle of Moorhead, MN.
The Reserve Champion horse was Zips Country Eclipse, by Zippos Country Cat and out of Moonlight Roman. The sorrel ApHC gelding earned 8 Conformation, 26 Rail and 33 Pattern points, winning the pattern division. He earned $3347.30 in cash, a blanket sponsored by SN Tack of St. John, ND and a pattern division champion jacket, sponsored by Uncle Bob’s Trailers of Jamestown. Proud owners and breeders are William and Jeanette Cook of New Salem, ND. Wanda Asbnlieder trained and showed the horse.
Other winners included Secret Principles, Chestnut ApHC mare, won the Conformation Division and placed in the top 10 earning $984.50 and a jacket sponsored by North Country Mercantile, Minot, ND for her efforts. She was owned and shown by Jeff Bernstein, Souris, ND and bred by William and Jeanette Cook of New Salem, ND. All top 10 winners received prize packages in addition to their share of the jackpot.
Tracy Dalstad, Emerado, ND earned the amateur award, a trophy saddle sponsored by Gustafson Oil, Rolla, ND. Tracy earned a total of 25 points on her ApHC gelding, Bodacious Mr, bred by TW Farms, Fargo, ND. She also earned the sportsmanship award as voted on by all contestents, a gearbag sponsored by Jess Bergum of Fargo.
A Top Youth buckle was presented to Alli Mullin, Cartwright, Manitoba for her efforts on DC Peppys Pica Prize. The buckle was sponsored by Alkali Ranch, Deloraine, MB and Clay Ranch of Cartwright, MB. Three other youth competed in the event: Quin Mullin, Cartwright, MB; Hannah Tollefsrud, Hawley, MN and Jacqui Dammen, Starkweather, ND.
The 7th Annual Sale was held following the futurity with 61 foals selling for an average of $791.35, with fillies averaging approximately $105 higher than stud colts. All foals selling through this sale will be eligible to compete in 2011 for $19,310 in cash plus prizes. The top seller was Justa Zippos Dream, a red leopard ApHC stallion, $2000, consigned and purchased by William and Jeanette Cook, New Salem, ND. Frosted Sugar Pop, a palomino AQHA stallion, was purchased for $1900 by Jacqui Dammen, Starkweather, ND; consigned by David and Phyllis Geiszler of Bottineau, ND. KLS Bonanza Cowgirl followed at $1800, selling to Lynn and Corrin Bell, Egeland, ND and consigned by Bridget Farstad, Minot, ND.
The 2010 Dakota 50/50 will be held at the NDSU Equine Center on Oct 29th and 30th.
